Sabbatical: When your brain goes sloth mode but dreams up wacky new goals.
During my last sabbatical, I realized that I wanted to change my way of entrepreneurship: no parallel founding of companies, to strive for higher success, there can only be one company.
So I had to choose my new entrepreneurial adventure wisely, but how? I set up filters for myself, and they helped me get through new ideas faster. The list filled fast with product-led, SaaS, long-lasting customer relationships, international, fully digital, etc.
After some months, I knew what I wanted – a long-lasting SaaS business in an Industry with big but slow players. This combination would give me a solid foundation for growth and profitability and is the best combination for my personality as a product guy.
I spent considerable time researching and analyzing different market trends to find a business that met my criteria. As an entrepreneur with over a dozen successful companies, I knew that finding the right idea required a focused approach.
The idea, which was much more
After extensive research and to my surprise, I didn’t find only a new idea but a complete company that I could buy. Something new and challenging for me!
The company I found was “Webme.com” a website builder active in 8 countries. The company had several million free users and thousands of paying customers, which made it a valuable asset. However, I realized that the company was in a dire state.
It was neglected for a long time, and the design and technology needed to be updated and felt like from the early 2000s. It was a tech mess that was impossible to fix.
As an entrepreneur, I saw great potential and loved it from the start.
I negotiated for a few month and then bought the complete company!
We, the “refounder”
After the takeover, I first needed a wingman to help me rebuild the company from the ground up to achieve this goal. I convinced my companion Anton Marcuse to be my co-founder and CTO:
“Yes, Anton, you have to quit your safe job, everything in our new company is broken, the business seems basic, and we have to find the team, but trust me: it will be amazing”
He said “yes”.
Next, we brought the best people in our network as shareholders on board. We formed a cohesive team dedicated to the company’s success, each with the unique expertise that Webme needed. We financed hiring a tech team of ten people to rebuild the entire portal.
New team, one goal, bright future
Our goal is to make it the world’s easiest website builder.
We understand that building a website can be daunting for most people. Our competitors tried to please all segments of customers, leading to an overwhelming full editor that can do anything but frustrate customers.
Editors are outdated. People wanted a website with little effort.
Our innovative solution is to create an AI-powered website builder that simplifies website building. Our customers only have to answer a few questions, and we build their website with matching structure, design, pictures, and text. It’s that simple! If they want, they can change things afterward by simply clicking on an element.
Building a website should be as easy as sending a text message. Our solution provides a hassle-free and intuitive way for people to create websites. With our simplified approach, we are confident that Webme.com will become the go-to website builder for everyone, from entrepreneurs and small business owners to football clubs.
We are committed to delivering the best possible service to our customers and building a company that will last for generations. We can achieve great things with our strong team, innovative technology, and commitment to excellence.
Vision, check.
Let’s go to work!
After we had assembled our team and established our vision, we began working tirelessly to bring our vision to life. We knew that we had a challenging task ahead of us, as we needed to overhaul the outdated technology and design of the company entirely.
The first step was to analyze the existing technology and design thoroughly. We had to understand what was working and what wasn’t to determine what needed to be replaced or updated. We also had to ensure that our new technology would be compatible with the existing infrastructure to avoid disruptions to the company’s operations.
We then started rebuilding the entire platform from scratch, focusing on creating a simple, intuitive user experience. We developed a new platform optimized for speed, scalability, and performance. We aimed to create a website builder to handle large traffic volumes while delivering a seamless user experience.
We also put much effort into designing Webme to be visually appealing and user-friendly. We understood that a website’s design is critical to its success, so we hired a team of experienced designers to work on the project. They helped us create a beautiful and
the functional interface that our customers love.
Going live is just the start
Once the new portal was up and running, we began marketing it. We focused on reaching out to small business owners, entrepreneurs, and individuals who wanted to create a website quickly and easily. We also targeted businesses looking to update their websites to the latest technology.
Our innovative solution was a hit with our customers, and we started seeing a nice growth in the number of users. We had achieved our first step of creating the world’s simplest website builder. People no longer had to spend hours in overwhelming editors. They only had to answer a few questions, and Webme would do the rest.
In conclusion, our journey with Webme.com has been challenging but rewarding. We took an outdated company and turned it into a new business that delivers value to its customers. Our innovative approach to website building has set a new standard for simplicity and ease of use. We are excited about the future and look forward to continuing to innovate and grow the company.
